Din 1 ianuarie 2017, în magazinele din Moldova a fost interzisă distribuirea gratuită a pungilor din plastic

Potrivit noii legi privind deșeurile, interdicția este introdusă în scopul prevenirii producerii deșeurilor și pentru a evita poluarea mediului înconjurător. Iar de la 1 ianuarie 2018 vor fi introduse noi cerințe, mai stricte, pentru producerea și compoziția ambalajului. Astfel, ambalajul trebuie să respecte cerințele prevăzute referitoare la concentrarea metalelor grele. În lege sunt stipulate clar cerințele de bază și specifice de fabricare și cele privind compoziția ambalajului, cele de reutilizare a acestora, precum și ambalajelor reciclabile. În același timp, din 1 ianuarie 2020 va intra în vigoare prevederea referitoare la crearea unui centru de gestionare a deșeurilor periculoase, care se va ocupa de distributia deșeurilor de poluanți organici persistenți sau deșeuri contaminate cu poluanți organici persistenți, care urmează a fi reciclate, precum și deșeurile care conțin mercur și cele periculoase care rezultă din dezmembrarea bateriilor și acumulatorilor, echipamentelor electrice și electronice, vehiculelor scoase din exploatare și exportul acestora pentru reciclare. Principalele prevederi ale noii legi privind deșeurile vor intra în vigoare după un an de la data publicării în Monitorul Oficial.
