Agricultura mondială este afectată de secetă

Producția agricolă mondială se află în pericol din cauza încălzirii climatice. Avertismentul vine din partea unui grup de savanți, în opinia cărora pentru a putea face față acestei situații este nevoie de realizarea unor schimbări profunde în societate. Societatea Americana pentru Progresul Stiintei a organizat o conferință în cadrul căreia a vorbit despre faptul că în următorii 35 de ani producția alimentară ar trebui să se dubleze pentru ca să poată hrăni cele 9 miliarde de oameni ai planetei care vor fi în 2050, față de cei 7 miliarde care sunt în prezent. Există însă o problemă. Potrivit directorului Laboratorului național american pentru agricultură și mediu, Jerry Hatfield, la nivel mondial capacitatea de utilizare și productivitatea solurilor vor duce la degradarea acestora, scrie portalul Independent.md. Totodată, climatologul de la Agenția americană oceanografică și atmosferică, Kenneth Kunkel, a afirmat că „Este foarte probabil ca temperaturile să continue să crească în Middle West, secetele să fie tot mai severe și să apară regulat episoade de precipitații puternice”. Tot oamenii de știință consideră că marile câmpii americane vor trece în secolul al XXI-lea prin episoade de secetă mult mai severe decât în mileniul precedent, amenințând locuitorii din acele zone.
