Британский остров попросил Королевский монетный двор отчеканить биткоины

Один из Нормандских островов Олдерни, входящий в коронное владение Великобритании Гернси (архипелаг Британские острова), решил отчеканить биткоиновые монеты. Об этом пишет The Financial Times со ссылкой на документы, оказавшиеся в распоряжении издания. Олдерни с лета пытается договориться о чеканке биткоинов с Королевским монетным двором. Остров хочет стать первым в мире центром операций с биткоинами. При этом Олдерни намерен получить признание как кластер услуг, соответствующий нормам в области противодействия отмыванию средств. В планах властей — создание обменных пунктов, платежных систем и хранилища биткоинов. Монеты, которые, возможно, будут содержать золото, предлагается выпускать в рамках памятной серии Королевского двора. Держатели таких монет не смогут рассчитываться ими в магазинах, но получат возможность обменивать их на электронные биткоины. Деньги от продажи монет, по замыслу властей Олдерни, будет получать Королевский монетный двор, властям острова достанется комиссия от продаж. Монеты будут обеспечены виртуальными биткоинами, которые планируется разместить на цифровом счету в Олдерни. Частные компании уже чеканили биткоины, однако до сих пор этого не делал ни один правительственный монетный двор. Топ-менеджер монетного двора Дэвид Янчевски (David Janczewski) подтвердил, что министр финансов Олдерни просил рассмотреть возможность выпуска памятных монет под названием «биткоины».
«Обсуждение далеко не продвинулось и пока это [чеканка биткоинов] остается не более чем концепцией», — уточнил Янчевски.
Биткоин на данный момент является самой популярной криптовалютой. Одной из самых характерных ее признаков является децентрализованность: выпуск и обращение биткоина никем не регулируется. Криптовалюта ничем не обеспечена, но ее курс тем не менее растет. До начала 2013 года стоимость валюты составляла не более 13 долларов, затем курс резко увеличился. Локального максимума — 1242 долларов — котировки достигли 29 ноября. На торгах 2 декабря произошел обвал курса на треть — цена биткоина снизилась до 840 долларов. Спад мог быть вызван публикацией ключей к онлайн-кошелькам, которые в итоге оказались поддельными.
