Consecinţe ale Brexit-ului

Opt ţări membre UE din Europa de Est au convenit să susţină o creştere a plăţilor efectuate de statele membre către următorul buget pe termen lung al blocului, pentru a ajuta la umplerea golului lăsat de contribuabilul net, Marea Britanie, după Brexit. Reprezentanţi ai Ungariei, Poloniei, Republicii Cehe, Slovaciei, Sloveniei, Croaţiei, Bulgariei şi României s-au întâlnit la Budapesta cu comisarul UE pentru buget, Guenther Oettinger, pentru a discuta despre mai multe aspecte, inclusiv despre viitorul plan bugetar al blocului. Cea mai mare sursă de venituri din bugetul UE este un procent uniform perceput din venitul naţional brut (VNB) al fiecărei ţări membre. Ţările ex-comuniste din est sunt, în cea mai mare parte, beneficiari neţi ai fondurilor UE şi au fost îngrijoraţi că un deficit în bugetul blocului le-ar lăsa cu mai puţini bani. Oettinger a declarat că viitorul buget al UE ar trebui să crească de la aproximativ 1% din producţia UE la puţin peste 1,1%, pentru a compensa fondurile pe care blocul nu le va mai primi de la Marea Britanie. Ieşirea Marii Britanii din UE în luna martie a anului viitor va priva Bruxelles-ul de aproximativ 12 mld. euro, dintr-un buget anual estimat acum la circa 140 mlrd. euro. Această gaură a determinat deja o rundă de discuţii între ceilalţi contribuabili din Occident, care nu doresc să compenseze deficitul, şi state din est, foste ţări ex-comuniste, care spun că nu ar trebui să sufere de reduceri ale subvenţiilor UE.
