Cum justifică David Cameron acordul fiscal cu Google

Premierul Marii Britanii, David Cameron, a adoptat o poziţie defensivă, pe fondul presiunilor din ce în ce mai intense după acordul prin care Google a plătit arierate fiscale. Ministrul britanic al Finanţelor, George Osborne, a declarat că acordul semnat cu grupul Google este "o victorie" împotriva practicilor fiscale corporatiste. Însă liderul Partidului Laburist, socialistul Jeremy Corbyn, a acuzat Guvernul conservator că are standarde duble, unele pentru companiile multinaţionale, iar altele pentru cetăţenii de rând şi firmele mici. De ce există o regulă pentru multinaţionale şi alta pentru salariaţi şi pentru firmele mici?, a afirmat Corbyn, potrivit ziarului The Guardian. Premierul David Cameron, liderul Partidului Conservator, a adoptat un ton defensiv, explicând că fostele guverne laburiste au tolerat evaziunea fiscală. Compania Google a acceptat să plătească taxe în valoare de 130 de milioane de lire sterline (185 de milioane de dolari), în Marea Britanie, pentru perioada 2005-2015, ca urmare a unui "audit deschis" realizat asupra conturilor sale de către autorităţile fiscale britanice. Această plată acoperă datorii restante din anul 2005 şi va fi făcută după şase ani de anchete realizate de reprezentanţii Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), un departament al Guvernului Marii Britanii, care este responsabil, printre altele, de colectarea taxelor. Google, în prezent parte a companiei americane Alphabet Inc, este una dintre companiile multinaţionale care au fost acuzate că au apelat la diverse aranjamente fiscale pentru a evita plata taxelor în Marea Britanie, în ciuda faptului că au încasat miliarde de lire sterline de pe această piaţă. HMRC a declanşat ancheta în cazul Google după mai multe controverse privind nivelul scăzut al taxelor plătite de companii multinaţionale, care au operaţiuni în Marea Britanie, dar ale căror sedii centrale sunt în alte ţări. În ciuda faptului că Marea Britanie este una dintre cele mai importante pieţe pentru Google, proprietarul celui mai important motor de căutare din lume a plătit în această ţară taxe de doar 20,4 milioane de lire sterline, în 2013. În schimb, în acelaşi an, Google a avut venituri de pe piaţa britanică de 3,8 miliarde de lire sterline. Cea mai mare parte a veniturilor atrase de Google din Marea Britanie au fost realizate din vânzările de publicitate online. În acest context, compania Google a fost criticată din cauza mecanismelor fiscale internaţionale complexe. Sediul central din Europa al Google este în Irlanda, o ţară care impune taxe pe profit mai mici decât cele din Marea Britanie. Totodată, pentru a-şi pune la adăpost profiturile, compania ar fi apelat la structurile sale din Insulele Bermude, considerate a fi un paradis fiscal şi ale căror autorităţi nu impun niciun impozit pe profit.
