Purtătorul de cuvânt al premierului Alexis Tsipras a declarat luni că este posibil ca acordul cu creditorii să fie încheiat până la sfârşitul acestei luni, dar a recunoscut că există încă dezacorduri în domenii ca ţintele bugetare, taxa pe vânzări, pensii şi legislaţia muncii, relatează Bloomberg. Insistenţa creditorilor pentru austeritate mai mare este subtilă, dar fermă. Guvernul nu poate şi nu va accepta un medicament care pe parcursul a cinci ani a fost mai dăunător decât boala, a spus luni Varoufakis. Blocajul negocierilor a dus la evaporarea lichidităţilor din Grecia, împingând economia în recesiune. Retragerile masive de fonduri din bănci şi dificultăţile tot mai mari ale ţării de a-şi respecta obligaţiile financiare au readus temerile legate de capacitatea ţării de a rămâne în zona euro. Pe fondul acestor temeri, indicele ASE al bursei din Atena a scăzut luni cu 3,1%, cel mai mult în aproape trei săptămâni. În ultimele 12 luni, ASE a scăzut cu 32%, înregistrând una dintre cele mai slabe evoluţii între indicii bursieri importanţi analizaţi de Bloomberg. Cu numai cinci săptămâni înainte de expirarea ofertei de ajutor a zonei euro, Tsipras continuă să refuze să ia măsuri care ar agrava recesiunea. Statul elen mai are de primit 7,2 miliarde de euro din actualul program de susţinere financiară de 240 de miliarde de euro, dar finanţarea este blocată, în lipsa acordului cu creditorii privind reformele. Purtătorul de cuvânt al guvernului a refuzat să spună luni dacă Grecia poate să respecte plata a 1,6 miliarde de euro către FMI, datorii scadente în luna iunie. Economistul şef al FMI, Olivier Blanchard, a afirmat luni, într-un interviu acordat publicaţiei Les Echos, că sistemul de pensii al Greciei este prea generos şi că numărul funcţionarilor publici este prea mare. El a adăugat că Grecia este încă destul de departe de măsurile credibile necesare să transforme deficitul bugetar substanţial în excedent.
