Одна из причин этого – дезинформация со стороны "желтой прессы". В этом плане британцы руководствуются идеологическими принципами и эмоциями, а не фактами. По статистике 77% трудовых мигрантов из Европы являются экономически активными, при этом для граждан Британии этот показатель составляет 72%. Вступая в ЕС, Великобритания согласилась соблюдать такие основополагающие принципы, как свобода передвижения товаров, капитала, услуг и людей. Данные свободы связаны не только с правами, но также и с обязательствами. Страны обязаны соблюдать все пункты, а не выбирать то, что им подходит".В ноябре 2013 г. премьер-министр Великобритании Дэвид Кэмерон объявил об ужесточении ряда правил в отношении трудовых мигрантов. В частности, по данным официального пресс-релиза правительства Великобритании, с 1 января 2014 г. прибывшие в страны мигранты не могут в первые три месяца получать пособия по безработице (jobseeker's allowance). С апреля 2014 г. трудовые мигранты не смогут получать пособия на жилье (housing benefit).
