Поставки черного золота на мировые рынки превышают спрос приблизительно на 1,55 млн баррелей в сутки, что в конечном итоге может привести в заполнению всех резервуарах для хранения излишков нефти. Это, в свою очередь, приведет к падению котировок. Нефтяные компании используют специальные резервуары для хранения излишков черного золота, а также для обеспечения фьючерсных контрактов. Эти объемы, разумеется, ограниченны и, по данным некоторых аналитиков, их ресурс практически полностью исчерпан по всему миру. Аналитики отмечают, что поставки нефти на мировой рынок энергоносителей превышает реальный спрос на 1,55 млн баррелей в сутки. Излишки помещаются в хранилища, однако если прирост продолжится подобными темпами, то в ближайшее время все хранилища полностью заполнятся. "Темпы роста запасов пугают. Кажется, что у нас просто не хватит мощностей для хранения всей нефти", – цитирует Wall Street Journal фондового менеджера консалтинговой фирмы Loomis, Sayles & Co Хариша Сундереша. Так, в США запасы на терминале в Кушинге достигли 49,2 млн баррелей, за один месяц увеличившись на 7,8 млн баррелей. Если темпы прироста сохранятся, то место для хранения закончится к маю. В Европе резервуары заполнены на 90%, в Южной Корее, Южной Африке и Японии – на 80%. Эксперты считают, что такая ситуация может привести к дальнейшему падению котировок, поскольку для того, чтобы не выливать нефть в буквальном смысле в землю, поставщики будут вынуждены предоставлять покупателям большие скидки. Участники рынка тем временем всеми способами стараются расширить объемы своих хранилищ за счет использования танкеров и даже соляных пещер. Международное энергетическое агенство сделало прогноз, согласно которому уровень запасов черного золота может повторить свой рекорд, который был зафиксирован в августе 1998 года. Тогда в хранилищах находилось 2,83 млрд баррелей нефти, а цена на черное золото составляла $13,38 за баррель. С учетом инфляции это эквивалентно стоимости барреля в $19,18 за баррель.
