Obiectivul fundamental constituie asigurarea şi menţinerea stabilităţii preţurilor. Fără prejudicierea obiectivului său fundamental, BNM promovează şi menţine un sistem financiar bazat pe principiile pieţei şi sprijină politica economică generală a statului.În calitate de bancă centrală, îşi orientează eforturile spre atingerea obiectivelor sale strategice, aliniate la domeniile de activitate de bază. Acestea din urmă vizează politica monetară, supravegherea instituţiilor financiare, emisiunea monetară şi sistemul de plăţi.
По сообщению Национального банка Молдовы, объем переводов в декабре 2016 г. составил $93,97 млн, что на 3,3% выше показателя предыдущего месяца ($90,97 млн), но на 3,2% ниже показателя декабря предыдущего года ($97,08 млн).
По данным Национального Банка Молдовы, общий приток прямых иностранных инвестиций в январе-сентябре 2016 г., в сравнении с аналогичным периодом прошлого года, уменьшился на 35,8% — с $287,2 млн до $184,27 млн, а отток капитала снизился на 24,9% — с $95,75 млн до $71,94 млн.
Национальный банк Молдовы ввел с 30 декабря в обращение в качестве платежного средства и в нумизматических целях пять памятных монет. В серии «Выдающиеся личности» отчеканена монета в честь 100-летия со дня рождения народного художника Молдовы Михаила Греку.

Banca Națională a Moldovei (BNM) a primit al treilea raport despre progresul înregistrat de compania Kroll în investigarea fraudei de proporții din sectorul bancar al Republicii Moldova. Investigația companiei Kroll a identificat săvârșirea unor infracțiuni de delapidare în valoare de aproximativ $600 mil. Urmărirea acestora până la destinația finală este în curs de desfășurare.

Banca Națională a Moldovei a anunţat că soluția informatică privind Registrul riscului de credit a fost dată în exploatare. Anume acest sistem ar permite băncii centrale să nu admită situația cu care ne-am ciocnit la finele anului 2014 — acumularea unui portofoliu exagerat de credite neperformante.
